About

The BN-CARE project aims to increase the understanding of the relationship between local air quality and public health while building partnerships toward collaborative efforts to improve air quality in Bloomington-Normal. With funding through a grant awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency, the Ecology Action Center has purchased and installed three stationary outdoor air quality monitors that provide real-time location-specific air quality data. This data will allow us to improve air quality, reduce exposure to air pollution, and improve awareness of air pollution and related health effects. The monitors have been placed in our community’s environmental justice or EJ areas. These are areas of low-income and minority neighborhoods that experience disproportionate negative impacts of environmental hazards.

BN-CARE also provides community-based, hands-on training through workshops and presentations using hand-held monitors. Request a workshop or presentation on our contact page.

The mission of the Ecology Action Center is to inspire and assist our community in creating, strengthening, and preserving a healthy environment. The EAC is the central resource for environmental education, information, outreach, and technical assistance in McLean County. Primary focus areas include waste reduction and recycling, clean water protection, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and air quality improvement/greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
